AEDE had a strong presence at the 5th Annual Midwest Graduate Student Summit on Regional, Population, Health, & Environmental (RPHE) Economics, held April 13th and 14th at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN.
At the 51st Southern Regional Science Association (SRSA) Meeting, held March 21-25 in Charlotte, NC, graduate student Amanda Weinstein presented her work titled, "Shale Gas Booms and Local Labor Market Restructuring."
AEDE was well represented at the North American Regional Science Council conference in Miami, Florida, held November 9-12.
Alessandra Faggian and Heather Stephens organized 9 special sessions on economic development that were some of the most attended sessions at the conference. A number of papers from these sessions will form a special issue of the International Regional Science Review will be co-edited by Faggian and Stephens.
Brian Roe and graduate student Greg Howard presented a selected poster titled "Comparing the Risk Attitudes of U.S. and German Farmers” at the 2011 European Association of Agricultural Economists Congress in Zurich, Switzerland on August 31, 2011.
Congratulations to Matt Gnagey, recipient of the 2011 AEDE Best Doctoral Research Manuscript, for his paper titled "A Semi-Parametric Analysis of Land Developer Costs and Development Timing." Jenny Trump received honorable mention for "The Impact of Student Mobility on Estimates of Teacher Effects." The review committee, chaired by Brian Roe, included Abdoul Sam, Elena Irwin, and Matt Roberts.
