AEDE graduate student John Newton was recently offered a prestigious fellowship to work with the United States Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry during the summer of 2013. The U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry works on a number of federal policy proposals related to the nation’s food and energy resources, including the 2013 farm bill.
AEDE Associate Professor Cameron Thraen and PhD student John Newton released new analysis this week evaluating the potential financial benefits and costs associated with the two major dairy safety net policy proposals being debated as part of the dairy subtitle of the 2013 farm bill.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – With debate over the looming “fiscal cliff” of automatic budget cuts and tax increases the focus of attention in Washington, an Ohio State University farm policy expert says it might not be all bad that farm bill discussions have been delayed.
Professor Carl Zulauf, often cited as the Department’s, the College’s and the wider University’s resident farm policy expert, recently sat down to talk about his background, the history of the U.S. Farm Bill and his thoughts on its future.
The 2012 Farm Science Review begins today and AEDE faculty, staff and students will actively participate in many events this year. The Farm Science Review offers Review participants an opportunity to interact with agricultural economists, farm management specialists and Extension educators from the department.
