    The Ohio State University Board of Trustees recently approved the promotion of Dr. Alessandra Faggian to the rank of Professor and Dr. H. Allen Klaiber to the rank of Associate Professor. Congratulations to these outstanding AEDE faculty members!

  2. Faculty Present at the 5th World Congress of Environmental and Resource Economists

    AEDE faculty members Ian Sheldon, H. Allen Klaiber, and Sathya Gopalakrishnan travelled to Istanbul, Turkey from June 28th to July 2nd to present their research at the 5th World Congress of Environmental and Resource Economists. The event brings together over 1,000 economists from more than 40 countries.

  3. Environmental Policy Initiative Announces Summer 2014 Research Grant Winners

    Ohio State’s Environmental Policy Initiative, which is directed by Professor Brent Sohngen, offers a yearly summer research grant for OSU graduate students who are preparing doctoral dissertation proposals for work in environmental policy. This year’s award was given to Elizabeth Gardiner from the Department of Anthropology; Chris Hartmann from the Department of Geography; and Nicholas Irwin from AEDE.

  4. Ohio State Researchers Help to Author the U.S. National Climate Assessment Report

    Every four years, the U.S. federal government commissions the U.S. National Climate Assessment to examine the effects of climate change on the world around us. The final product is delivered to the President and Congress. Professor Brent Sohngen served as a co-author for the forestry chapter of this year's report.

     

  5. Environmental Policy Initiative Launches Summer Grant Competition

    Ohio State's Environmental Policy Initiative, which is led by Professor Brent Sohngen, launched its Summer 2014 grant competition today. The program offers research grants for OSU graduate students preparing doctoral dissertation proposals for work in environmental policy. Recipients receive an award of $4,000 for the summer. Applications must be submitted by Friday, May 16th.  
  6. AEDE to Partner on New Sustainability Learning Community with OSU Housing

    In Autumn 2014, a new Ohio State learning community, Students Understanding Sustainability and Taking Action to Improve Nature and Society (SUSTAINS), will launch on the Ohio State campus with support from AEDE. Students interested in becoming a member of the SUSTAINS Learning Community must complete a Learning Community Application by May 2, 2014. 

  7. Ohio State Economists Discuss Sustainable Development at Discovery Themes Lecture/COMPAS Conference

    AEDE's Elena Irwin and Ian Sheldon participated in a panel discussion with economist Jeffrey D. Sachs during the Ohio State University Provost’s Discovery Themes Lecturer Program and COMPAS (Conversations on Morality, Politics, and Society) conference on April 4th. They shared their thoughts on sustainable development at the special event, which more than 1,000 people attended. 

  8. New Ohio Sea Grant Project Helps Determine Lake Erie's Value to Its Residents

    In a research project recently funded by the Ohio Sea Grant College Program, AEDE's Dr. Elena Irwin and PhD student Wendong Zhang are working to develop an economic model that will help policymakers decide which conservation practices will raise the value of the Lake Erie ecosystem to its residents and visitors.

  9. Ohio State to Hold 2013-2014 Agricultural Policy and Outlook Conference Series Statewide

    Attend one of the dozen agricultural policy and outlook county meetings to be held throughout Ohio in December 2013. The meetings will feature presentations from AEDE experts on policy changes, key issues and market behavior with respect to farm, food and energy resources, and the environment. 

  10. AEDE’s Sathya Gopalakrishnan to Participate in National Climate Change Research Symposium

    AEDE’s strong presence studying the economic impact of climate change has been further demonstrated with the selection of Dr. Sathya Gopalakrishnan, AEDE assistant professor working in the field of environmental economics, to participate in a national symposium for early career scientists focusing on interdisciplinary climate change research.
