Mackenzie received her undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Akron and graduated summa cum laude. During her undergraduate career, she was a research assistant at the University of Notre Dame working on a project about gender economics and work-life balance. She was also a researcher for the University of Wisconsin-Stout working on differential equation modeling for algae growth concerning the local watershed. This then led into her senior research about coupled bio-economic systems and the optimal phosphorus level for a watershed. She has an outreach and journal publication, in addition to numerous conference presentations, most recently at Stanford. Advisor: Dr. H.
