He received his B.A. in Economics and Environmental Studies from Dickinson College, PA. Karan's primary research interest is in household resilience with an emphasis on exploring the causal and spatial relationships of shocks and various mitigating strategies. He is interested in learning about the immediate and lingering effects of natural disasters, its implications on food and nutrition, and policy conversations addressing these issues. Recently, Karan is working on a paper exploring the seasonal dynamics of child malnutrition in Senegal. He was also part of a team that conducted focus-group interviews studying the challenges of an agroforestry intervention in Senegal.
