William Swank Chair in Rural-Urban Policy at The Ohio State University. His research interests lie broadly in environmental, natural resource, and agricultural economics. Specific areas of expertise include biofuels regulation, water and air quality valuation, and water utility conservation programs. Recent projects explore the economic impacts of the Flint water crisis, the effects of the 2003 Clean Water Act updates on pollution downstream of animal feeding operations in the Midwest, and behaviors of rural residents that rely on private wells for the primary drinking water source. Dr. Lade is on the Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists editorial council and a faculty collaborator with the Iowa State University Center for Agricultural and Rural Development. He has testified before the U.S. House of Representatives advised several federal and state agencies and think tanks, including the Environmental Protection Agency, the California Air Resources Board, the Congressional Research Service, the Government Accountability Office, and the Environmental Defense Fund.
