Dr. Hitzhusen earned his BS degree from Iowa State University in 1962; his MS from Purdue Univeristy in 1968; and his PhD from Cornell University in 1972. His more than 40 years of professional work have been as an environmental and natural resource economist working on soil erosion and sedimentation, biomass and other renewable energy systems, externalities of nonrenewable energy systems, infrastructure and community service delivery issues and restoration of river systems. He has conducted both domestic and international research and consulting in more than 20 countries. He has held teaching, research, Extension and administrative appointments at Ohio State and he has taught courses on benefit cost analysis, economic analysis for collective choice, sustainable development and research methodology.
