Dr. Boyne, who was raised on a farm in Michigan, earned his BS degree in dairy science from Michigan State University in 1957; he earned his PhD in economics from the University of Chicago in 1962. He served as the Michigan State FFA President from 1952 to 1953. He then went on to serve as the National FFA President from 1953 to 1954. From 1960 to 1967 he worked as an Assistant Professor in the Agricultural Economics department at Michigan State University. While at Ohio State he was a Professor in AEDE from 1967 to 1983, he also served as Chair of the department. Additionally, he served as an Associate Provost at Ohio State from 1983 to 1992 and as the Ohio LEAD Program Director from 1993 to 1997.
