Jill Clark recently received the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences Staff Advisory Council Innovation Award. This award is presented to staff who have developed and/or participated in project initiatives and operations improvements that enhance CFAES, Extension, ATI, or OARDC and its mission.

The department is honored to recognize AEDE alumnus Vice Admiral Thomas R. Wilson, chosen by The Ohio State University Alumni Association for the 2011 Alumni Medalist Award. Wilson graduated from OSU in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, majoring in Agricultural Economics. After graduation, he attended the Navy Officer Candidate School where he began an illustrious career in U.S. intelligence, serving in numerous positions, most notably as the 13th Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency.

AEDE was well represented at the North American Regional Science Council conference in Miami, Florida, held November 9-12.
Alessandra Faggian and Heather Stephens organized 9 special sessions on economic development that were some of the most attended sessions at the conference. A number of papers from these sessions will form a special issue of the International Regional Science Review will be co-edited by Faggian and Stephens.

Mark Partridge co-organized the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and Journal of Regional Science Workshop on Immigration and the Firm/Immigration and Urban Issues: Crime, Consumption Varieties, Housing on Nov. 7-8, bringing together the world’s foremost immigration scholars to discuss the leading issues. Papers will be included in a special issue of the Journal of Regional Science.

According to data from the Georgetown Center on Education and the Workforce, 98.7% of college graduates who majored in Agricultural Economics are currently employed. Of the 10 college majors with the lowest unemployment rates, Agricultural Economics ranks 7th.
