    AEDE graduate students had the opportunity this past week, March 21–22, to present at the Midwest Economics Association's annual meeting in Chicago, IL. This annual meeting is an opportunity for midwest economists to expose their work and communicate with each other face-to-face.

    The Midwest Economics Association (MEA), a non-profit organization whose purpose is the advancement of economic knowledge and the economics profession, hosted the meeting.

  2. Agricultural Land Lost to Development

    The new 2022 Census of Agriculture data shows the number of farms in Ohio declined by 2.3% and in land in farms declined by 6.4% between 2002 and 2022.  One number that is concerning to agricultural stakeholders in Ohio is the loss of 931,089 acres in land in farms in Ohio in the last twenty years. 

    The question is how much of the agricultural land in Ohio was lost to development?

However, not all households are alike when it comes to waste amounts and patterns, and understanding these differences can guide food waste reduction campaigns and interventions. An open-access article titled "Segmenting U.S. consumers by food waste attitudes and behaviors: Opportunities for targeting reduction interventions" by Ph.D. candidate Ran Li and Dr. Brian Roe appears in the March 2024 issue of Sustainable Production and Consumption.

  9. The Farm Income Enhancement Program hosts Farm Credit Mid-America visit to AEDE

    On January 29, 2024, the Farm Income Enhancement Program hosted a visit by the Farm Credit Mid-America (FCMA) to AEDE to discuss research, outreach, and student engagement opportunities. Melanie Strait-Bok met with AEDE faculty and students with the goal of increasing engagement and collaboration.  Melanie Strait-Bok is a Senior Vice President of Agricultural Lending for Ohio at Farm Credit Mid-America.

    The Farm Income Enhancement Program hosted a visit by the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation to AEDE to discuss research, outreach, and student engagement opportunities on February 14, 2024. Evan Callicoat, Leah Curtis, Whittney Bowers, and Brad Bales from the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation met with AEDE faculty and students with the goal of increasing engagement and collaboration.  Evan Callicoat is an OSU alum who graduated from our Agribusiness and Applied Economics Program and is now a Director of State Policy at the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation.
