  2. Global Water Institute leads effort to improve water and food security with the Navajo Nation

    A new effort led by researchers at The Ohio State University will help the Navajo Nation mitigate the lack of water and food security at a time when the Navajo communities are facing new challenges due to COVID-19.

  3. AEDE grad Ken Davis selected for CFAES Professional Achievement Award

    Even as an undergraduate, Ken Davis had a flair for leading. Early on, he got involved in The Ohio State University chapter of MANRRS taking on a leadership role in the organization that welcomes people of all racial and ethnic groups in agricultural and related science careers. Working well with the team of officers, Ken generated new ideas and initiatives within the organization and represented Ohio State at many on and off-campus events.

  4. Two AEDE PhD students win Graduate School's 3MT competition

    The 3MT is an academic competition for PhD students and master’s students pursuing a master’s thesis, to describe their research within three minutes, to a general audience. A competition was recently held to select a finalist to represent OSU at the regional Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) competition at which national representatives will be selected.  

  5. Downscaling the measurement of sustainability

     The theory of sustainability was developed with a global framework in mind.    

    “The earth is a shared system with many interacting parts, so it isn't possible to consider any action to address sustainability in isolation," said Elena Irwin, distinguished professor of food, agricultural and environmental sciences in
    economics and sustainability and faculty director at Ohio State’s Sustainability Institute (SI).      

  6. Agribusiness and Applied Economics student's path paved by his trust in himself, his future and FFA

    Kolesen McCoy thought sports would be his ticket to success. But then he had a change of heart, quit varsity soccer, and joined the student organization Future Farmers of America (FFA), known today as the National FFA Organization.  As he embraced the leadership and educational experiences offered, he took on leadership roles, first as an officer for his home state of Ohio, and then most recently, as president of the national organization which necessitated him taking a year off from college to serve in the role.

  8. AEDE’s Siddhartha Bora Awarded 2021 William E. Krauss Director’s Award for Excellence in Graduate Research

    Siddhartha Bora, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics (AEDE), has been awarded the 2021 William E. Krauss Director’s Award for Excellence in Graduate Research for his lead-authored paper entitled "The Rationality of USDA Forecasts under Multivariate Asymmetric Loss". The award is given by the OSU College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences to a current or recently graduated Ph.D.

  9. Dr. Sathya Gopalakrishnan chosen for 2021 North American cohort of leading sustainability scientists

    In the midst of cascading crises from climate change to biodiversity loss and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Earth Leadership Program – the global successor to the renowned Leopold Leadership Program, now in partnership with Future Earth – has announced its 2021-22 North American cohort.

  10. Nearly 80,000 pounds of produce grown for food pantries statewide

    Master Gardener Volunteers from across Ohio grew nearly 80,000 pounds of produce in 2020 statewide and donated it all to 101 food pantries in cities and towns across the state.
