AEDE’s Student Service Center, located in Suite 249 of the Agricultural Administration Building, recently welcomed a new staff member with the hiring of Holly Hall as the Center’s Office Associate.
The Student Service Center provides academic support services to all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in AEDE’s programs. The Center serves as a one-stop shop for all AEDE students and should be the first point of contact for all academic questions and needs.
Holly recently sat down to tell us more about her background, her interests, and how she’ll help to guide AEDE students through their educational curriculum.
What is your educational background?
I graduated from Temple University with a B.A. in Anthropology and French, along with a General Business minor. Starting this fall, I will begin pursing my master’s degree part-time in Higher Education and Student Affairs.
What did you do prior to joining AEDE?
I moved to Columbus a year ago and shortly after I started a temporary job at Ohio State’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions as an application processor, which helped me to become familiar with the institution. Before that, while I was at Temple University, I worked for two years as a peer advisor in the College of Liberal Arts’ advising center, helping students with academic policy and course selection questions.
What are your duties at AEDE?
Because my position here is brand new, my duties are still evolving. A large part of my job is assisting Agribusiness and Applied Economics majors with academic advising (scheduling, course planning, college/department policies), but I will also be meeting with prospective students and their parents, co-developing new programs and resources for students, and in general providing support to the undergraduate program as a whole as well as the graduate program.
What made you interested in this position?
What made me most interested in this position was the amount of interaction it has with students. I really enjoy working directly with college students through advising as well as any planning and programming that will contribute to their college academic experience.
What are you most looking forward to in working at AEDE?
I am most looking forward to helping to create new and improved ways of assisting our students through both online and in-person materials, events, and programs.
What are your hobbies/what do you like to do in your spare time?
My husband and I have recently taken up tennis. I am not very good yet, so if you see me whiff a ball at the RPAC courts, please don’t laugh. I am also very interested in backpacking, home brewing, watching too much television, and anything and everything to do with my German Shepherd, Frankie!
Welcome, Holly! Faculty, staff and students, please stop by Suite 249 to say hello to Holly. The AEDE Student Service Center staff looks forward to continuing to assist you in your academic needs.
