Faculty Serve as Co-Organizers for Regional, Urban, and Spatial Economics Conference in China

June 25, 2014

Mark Partridge, Chair of Ohio State’s C. William Swank Program in Rural-Urban Policy and professor in the Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics (AEDE), and Alessandra Faggian, AEDE associate professor, represented Ohio State at the International Regional, Urban, and Spatial Economics in China Conference held at Fudan University in June 2014.

Partridge served as a co-organizer of the conference and he was a member of the conference’s scientific committee. He also delivered the event’s keynote address. Faggian also served on the conference’s organizing committee and presented a paper at the gathering. This is the third annual meeting of the International Regional, Urban, and Spatial Economics in China Conference.

The conference aims to increase the visibility of regional economics, urban economics, and spatial economics in China and to develop a stronger research network for top-level Chinese scholars working in these fields. The conference was organized by the China Center for Economic Studies at Fudan University. A variety of scholars from around the world attended the gathering.

AEDE continues to build a strong base of scholars working in the field of regional economics. Not only has the department received prominent awards in the field, hosted a graduate student conference on regional economics, and had faculty travel extensively for engagement in the subject area, but the two most popular academic journals in the field of regional science – Papers in Regional Science and the Journal of Regional Science – are both co-edited by AEDE faculty members (Faggian co-edits Papers in Regional Science and Partridge co-edits the Journal of Regional Science), which is unprecedented.
