Dr. Brian Roe delivers first address as President of AAEA

July 28, 2025

[DENVER] Dr. Brian Roe kicked off his first action as President of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association by delivering his Presidential Address at their annual conference. AAEA’s annual meeting runs from July 27 – 29, 2025 in Denver, Colorado.

Dr. Roe is the Fred N. VanBuren Professor of Farm Management, was chosen as an AAEA Fellow, served as an editor of the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, and leads major research and policy initiatives on sustainable food systems.

Dr. Roe is an experienced champion of research, teaching, and outreach. His top priority is to target a “…larger and more extensive pipeline of students with exposure to and interests in applying economics to solve agricultural, development, environmental, food and consumer, natural resource, regional, rural, and associated business problems.” He plans initiatives for AAEA from K-12 onward to broaden and deepen that pipeline.

In this leadership role, he plans to:

  • promote initiatives that will share applied economics with youth organizations like 4-H, attracting more students to applied economics departments across the country,
  • work within AAEA to expand mentoring programs and activities that invite undergraduates to engage with AAEA, and
  • support efforts to ensure that AAEA is a welcoming professional home for all engaged in the work we do.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to serve the AAEA over the coming years and motivated to give back to an Association that has been pivotal to my own professional development and the development and professional success of many generations of applied economists,” shared Dr. Roe.
