Dr. Ani Katchova Receives Publication of Lasting Impact Award

April 27, 2023

Dr. Ani Katchova, a Professor and Farm Income Enhancement Chair in the Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics at the Ohio State University, has received the 2023 Publication of Lasting Impact Award from the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association’s (AAEA) Agricultural Finance and Management Section.  The award will be presented at business meeting of the Agricultural Finance and Management (AFM) Section at the 2023 AAEA annual meeting in Washington, DC.

The Publication of Lasting Impact Award is for Katchova’s article entitled “Credit Risk Models and Agricultural Lending” which is co-authored with Peter Barry, published in the 2005 American Journal of Agricultural Economics (AJAE).  This article developed and used credit risk models to estimate capital requirements for agricultural lenders under the Basel II Capital Accord.  The study introduced important credit risk modeling framework in the field of agricultural finance and was one of the first studies published in the flagship journal (AJAE) on this topic.  The study served as the foundation for other studies on credit risk assessment and has had strong citation record that has continued over time.  The award was given for the “publication’s enduring impact on the profession,” according to the selection criteria of the AAEA’s AFM section.
