As the temperatures rose and U.S. trade disputes intensified this past summer, Ohio State University professors Ian Sheldon (Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics) and Dan K. Chow (Moritz College of Law) met to talk about the acceptance of their coauthored research paper on trade in the University Of Pennsylvania Journal Of Law & Public Affairs. Over coffee, the conversation evolved into one concerning the tumultuous political and economic climate. They agreed that in order to best make sense of the state of international trade, a meeting of the minds was in order. Thus, the idea for an interdisciplinary conference on the state of U.S. trade and economic nationalism took shape. They reached out to collegues at Fisher College of Business' The Risk Institute to discuss potential speakers and an agenda.
The result is the upcoming conference titled Economic Nationalism & Trade Conference, that will feature 12 regional and national experts who will examine – through an interdisciplinary lens - the legal, business and economic consequences of U.S. trade policy.
The conference is free and will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019 at William B. Saxbe Law Auditorium. REGISTER.
International trade is an issue that affects everyone in our nation and beyond. By sharing perspectives, participants will be able to broaden their common understanding, and work to improve the well-being of our state, regional, national and global communities.
"The important and complex issues we will discuss require understanding and solutions best made apparent through collaborative sharing of information and ideas of more than one area of specialized knowledge," says Sheldon.
