Ani Katchova promoted to Professor

May. 20, 2021

Ani Katchova, a faculty member and Farm Income Enhancement Chair in the Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics at The Ohio State University, has been promoted to the rank of Professor.

Dr. Katchova is a renowned scholar and expert in the areas of agricultural finance and agribusiness. Her research skillfully applies econometric techniques to unique datasets, exploring substantive questions in the realm of farm income forecasting, farmland values, farm bankruptcies, agricultural lending, and food marketing.  Her research is widely cited and has been published in leading journals such as the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Applied Economic Perspectives and Policy, Agricultural Finance Review, and Agribusiness: An International Journal.  She has received an Outstanding Research Award from the Agricultural Finance and Management section of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA).

Dr. Katchova’s multiple invited presentations in prestigious venues such as the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Economic Research Service (ERS) are a vivid testament to the timeliness and policy relevance of her research as well as her national stature in the area of agricultural finance. Her service as a Director for AAEA indicates national reputation by earning her a place on a nine-member Board for the Association.

Dr. Katchova teaches an undergraduate class in Agribusiness Finance and a master’s class in Econometrics. Both courses are well-received by students.  She has been actively involved in mentoring graduate students and post-doctoral scholars who have earned several research awards.  She created the Econometrics Academy, an online course--freely available on YouTube--in which she introduces viewers to mainstream econometric topics and the application of popular applied econometrics software packages.

As Farm Income Enhancement Chair, Dr. Katchova has established a strong outreach program to stakeholders, focusing on the area of farm income and related topics (agricultural lending, farmland values, farm financial stress).

With the promotion of Dr. Katchova to the rank of Professor, she can be expected to sustain her excellent record of research, teaching, outreach, and service and to continue contributing to the AEDE department’s reputation of being the premier department of applied economics in the world.
