The Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics (AEDE) at The Ohio State University is organizing the Midwest Graduate Student Conference on Regional and Applied Economics (CRAE), which will be held on the campus of Ohio State on Friday and Saturday, April 5 and 6, 2013.
CRAE, which is a continuation of a series of conferences held by Midwestern universities, was previously held at Purdue University and the University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign under the titles Regional, Population, Health, & Environmental Economics Midwest Graduate Student Summit (RPHE) and Space, Health and Population Economics (SHaPE). This year is the 6th annual gathering.
In hosting the conference Ohio State has engaged a keynote speaker from an international university, which is a first for the series. Confirmed speakers for the event include: keynote speaker Dr. Philip McCann from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands whose participation is sponsored by the North American Regional Science Council (NARSC); Dr. Neil Reid from the University of Toledo whose participation is sponsored by the C. William Swank Program in Rural-Urban Policy at The Ohio State University; and Dr. Linda Lobao from the Department of Sociology and Geography at The Ohio State University whose participation is sponsored by the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) at The Ohio State University. Additionally, AEDE faculty members Dr. Mark Partridge, Dr. Elena Irwin, and Dr. Alessandra Faggian will speak at the conference.
The conference provides an excellent platform for graduate students and post-doctoral researchers from a variety of Midwestern universities to gather and share ideas, seek and provide feedback, and foster collaboration in the fields of regional studies, economic geography, urban economics, and applied economics.
Participants are encouraged to present their research at the conference. The organizers are accepting abstracts of completed research, research in progress, and research announcements from conference participants through March 22, 2013.
Participants are also encouraged to participate in the conference’s paper competition, submissions for which are being accepted through March 20, 2013. The winner of this competition, as well as one honorable mention, will receive a monetary prize.
The Regional Studies Association (RSA) is also providing funding for travel grants for participants.
Registration is currently in progress and those participants that register by March 29, 2013 will pay a reduced registration fee of $35.00. All registrations made after this date will be subject to a $40.00 fee.
