News article: Former AEDE Doctoral Student and Current Associate Professor, Dr. Khushbu Mishra was Awarded the Stetson University's Hand Award

Former AEDE doctoral student and current Associate Professor of Economics at Stetson University, Khushbu Mishra, was recently awarded Stetson University’s Hand Award, a university-wide distinction for the excellence of her research.

 AEDE faculty and graduate students have a long-standing history of membership and leadership with the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA). The organization is comprised of members working in academic departments, government agencies, NGOs, and in the private sector in the fields of agricultural and applied economics.

News article: Professor Mario Miranda Receives AAEA 2017 Fellow Award

Professor Mario Miranda recently accepted his AAEA 2017 Fellow Award at AAEA's award ceremony in Chicago, Illionois.  During his acceptance speech, he shared that he has enjoyed his nearly 30 years working as an agricultural economist, researcher and teacher.  The profession has allowed him to collaborate with collegues from all over the nation and the world.

The dissertation of AEDE PhD graduate, Dr. Muhammad Imran Chaudhry, received an honorable mention from the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association’s (AAEA) Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award. Dr. Imran credited his success to the scholarly excellence and dedication of his dissertation committee.

“I am especially indebted to my adviser Professor Miranda who encouraged me to pursue theoretical research, provided invaluable insights along the way and literally chaperoned me through the PhD program,” says Imran.

Mark Rembert won the best Ph.D. student paper from the Mid Continent Regional Science Association for his work titled, "Creative Destruction & Inter-Regional Job Reallocation during the Great Recession."

Announcing the 2017 Class of AAEA Fellows The AAEA Fellows Selection Committee has seleced five outstanding members to be honored as the 2017 AAEA Fellows.  The five distinguished Fellows will be recognized at the 2017 AAEA Annual Meeting in July, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois.

Tony Gallenstein, an AEDE doctoral student, is currently in Tanzania serving as a program manager for the Innovative Agricultural Research Initiative (iAGRI), a USAID Feed the Future project. AEDE’s Dave Kraybill serves as the iAGRI project director.

iAGRI is an ambitious five-year program to improve agricultural productivity and food security in Tanzania.

The Allied Social Science Associations (ASSA) recently gathered for its annual meeting in Boston, MA from Jan 3-5, 2015 where AEDE was represented amongst the program participants. 

ASSA, in conjunction with approximately 55 associations in related disciplines, holds a three-day meeting each January to present papers on general economic subjects. Over 520 scholarly sessions are held.

News article: Professor Mario Miranda Teaches Workshop on Computational Economic Dynamics at the Central Bank of Costa Rica

 

AEDE Professor Mario Javier Miranda recently returned from the Central Bank of Costa Rica where he presented a week-long workshop from December 3-7, 2012 focused on computational economic dynamics. Professor Miranda was invited to teach the workshop at the Central Bank by Roger Madrigal, Chief Economist of the Central Bank, who earned his doctorate degree from AEDE in 2004.
