Many of society's greatest challenges lie at the interface of ecology, natural resource sustainability, and ecosystem integrity on the one hand and individual-societal interests and economic forces on the other. Nowhere are these chellenges more exemplarilt portrayed than in the clash of interests and values over land and how much societal control can or should be exercised in protecting both individual and societal rights and interests in land.
