The Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics (AEDE) in the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Science (CFAES) at The Ohio State University invites applications for an Associate or Full Professor with tenure. The incumbent is expected to conduct innovative research on the economics of agriculture and food systems and to provide intellectual leadership to the Department and the University’s Discovery Theme Initiatives in the areas of food systems. Food systems encompass all processes and infrastructure involved in feeding a population: growing, harvesting, processing, packaging, transporting, marketing, consumption, and disposal of food and food-related items. We are open to candidates with expertise in any number of specialties, e.g., industrial organization, marketing, contracting, econometrics, experimental economics, behavioral economics, and with experience or interest in developing systems-based research. The appointee will have an academic year (9 month) appointment AEDE with competitive salary and benefits package and is expected to develop and maintain a world-class research program in their field of inquiry, teach in our undergraduate, Master’s, and/or Ph.D. programs, and develop an appropriate outreach program.
AEDE is a premier department of applied economics that values excellence in research, teaching and outreach to fulfill our departmental commitment to Ohio State’s Land-Grant mission. AEDE’s world-class faculty currently serve 80 Ph.D. students, 20 M.S. students and 500 undergraduate majors in four programs: A top-rated Ph.D. degree with fields in environmental, development and regional economics; an M.S. degree; a B.S. major in Agribusiness and Applied Economics; and in partnership with the School of Environmental and Natural Resources, a rapidly growing B.S. major in Environment, Economy, Development, and Sustainability.
This position will add to a cluster of four recently hired faculty in the Department focused on sustainable resource management in the 21st century. The position is partially funded by a Discovery Theme Initiative at the Ohio State University, a significant faculty hiring investment in key thematic areas in which the University can build on its culture of academic collaboration to make a global impact. The successful candidate will be among approximately 30 new hires university-wide in a highly collaborative interdisciplinary Initiative for Food and AgriCultural Transformation (https://discovery.osu.edu/focus-areas/infact/) that includes more than 50 existing faculty and many external partners seeking transformational solutions for resilient, sustainable and global food security. The successful candidate will initiate new transformative research, education and outreach with colleagues across campus and thus strengthen the university’s impact on resilient and sustainable food security. Additional collaborative opportunities are likely in the Sustainable and Resilient Economy program (https://discovery.osu.edu/focus-areas/sustainable-economy), focused on advancing cutting-edge research in sustainability science and solutions that accelerate the global transition to a low-carbon, more sustainable economy.
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in economics, agricultural economics, business or an applied economics field. Interest in developing or working in collaborative multidisciplinary research teams, and experience with teaching and mentoring members of underrepresented groups is preferred.
