Her presentation will focus on her recent research: "A New Mix of Private and Public: How Well Might the U.S. Food Safety Modernization Act Work?"
Abstract: The Food Safety Modernization Act of 2011 (FSMA) is introducing comprehensive changes to the regulation of domestic and imported foods under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. These changes are a new mix of private responsibilities for preventative controls, use of third party certification as an assurance tool, and new regulatory oversight. How will the industrial organization of food safety markets influence how well FSMA may work, particularly for the fresh produce industry?
