The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) went into effect in April 1995. The law is intended to help employees who need to be off work for an extended period of time for a newborn child, adoption, personal illness or to take care of a relative needing care. Those sections of the Family and Medicial Leave Act not related to agricultural labor are not included in this handbook.
