A recent influx of new dairy operations to the northwest Ohio counties of Van Wert and Paulding has raised questions about the impacts of new dairies on local communities. Using extensive data collected from local official records, local government officials and the owners of the new dairies, we assess how seven recently constructed dairies affect the economy of these two counties (economic impacts) and the fiscal standing of local governments and school districts within this two-county study area (fiscal impacts).
