RELATED RESEARCH

The following describes research projects related to the Exurban Change Project:

Licking County Study, Conducted by Jeff Sharp

  • Analysis of the impacts of  exurban growth on community and agriculture. This project is a comparative study project focusing on two exurban townships in Northwest Licking County.

Medina County Land Use Modeling, Conducted by Elena Irwin

  • Development of a predictive model of land use change patterns that can be used to understand how government policies both directly and indirectly influence conversion of land to residential and other urban land uses. Initial research focuses on developing a spatial model of conversion from agricultural and natural land uses to residential development within the urban-rural fringe area of Medina and western Cuyahoga counties.  For an overview of the project, click here

Retail Market Analysis, Conducted by Elena Irwin

  • Retail market analysis seeks to answer questions about the relative supply and demand of retail goods within a local market area.  At a basic level, retail trade analysis can help a community to identify to what degree there are net outflows or inflows of retail consumption dollars.  By comparing actual retail dollars spent in a town or county to the potential retail dollars that could be spent in that town or county, this analysis can help communities to identify potential opportunities and voids in local retail markets. (Follow this link for more information)
