Andersons Program History

The Andersons Program was established in 1988 as home to the Andersons Chair. Funding for this program was provided by The Andersons, Inc., a diversified agribusiness and retailing company based in Maumee, OH.  This prominent regional player in the grain industry is diversified into  processing and manufacturing businesses, and general merchandise retailing. Their interest in the broad aspects of policy, trade and marketing as they relate to agriculture led to the creation of this program.

The Andersons Chair was first filled by Luther G. Tweeten (1988-2000) and then by Barry K. Goodwin (2001-03). These internationally recognized scholars have studied a wide range of issues … from the U.S. farm bill and world trade negotiations, to food security, environmental legislation, and risk management policy. Tweeten and Goodwin have involved many other scholars and graduate students in the Andersons Program, conducting both complex empirical analysis and more applied research on the policy issues important to this industry.

In 2006, Drs. Mario J. Miranda and Ian M. Sheldon were appointed as Andersons Professors.  They conduct research and education programs in risk management and trade, respectively.
