Retail Market Analysis - Central Business Districts
To develop strategies for central business district success, the project team
conducted the following research:
- Study sites consist of over 500 rural and exurban communities in the
Great Lake states of Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
- Used economic, demographic and geographic data to determine which
factors contribute to retail and local service success within these
communities.
- Grouped communities by size, location relative to urban area and whether
it is a county seat or not
- Profiled successful communities within the groups through interviews and
analysis to gain insights in to successful strategies for different types of
communities.
- Van Wert, Ohio was used within a comparison study to evaluate the
validity of the projects results and implementation.
