Retail Market Analysis - Central Business Districts

To develop strategies for central business district success, the project team conducted the following research:

  1. Study sites consist of over 500 rural and exurban communities in the Great Lake states of Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
  2. Used economic, demographic and geographic data to determine which factors contribute to retail and local service success within these communities.
  3. Grouped communities by size, location relative to urban area and whether it is a county seat or not
  4. Profiled successful communities within the groups through interviews and analysis to gain insights in to successful strategies for different types of communities.
  5. Van Wert, Ohio was used within a comparison study to evaluate the validity of the projects results and implementation.
