Ohio Oil and Gas Law
Introduction
Although oil and gas production is not new to Ohio, current interest in developing shale resources may bring a "new" oil and gas boom to Ohio. Development companies are approaching landowners with offers to lease oil and gas rights, with hopes of using technological advances to tap into the extensive shale resources underlying most of the state. Many legal questions arise throughout the oil and gas production process, such as whether or not a landowner has clear title to the mineral rights, agreement on leasing provisions, mandatory pooling authority, environmental regulation and community rights. This page contains our resources on these topics along with relevant sections of the Ohio Revised Code and the Ohio Administrative Code, links to other resources related to oil and gas drilling and relevant court cases that have previously dealt with these important issues.
