What is Contained on this Site?

This site contains several different types of information, including forest inventories, timber market economic information, and carbon conversion parameters, for different countries of the world.  The data has been compiled from several different sources of information, although the primary source of data is the Timber Supply Model originally developed in Sedjo and Lyon (1990), and updated in Sohngen et al. (1999) and Sohngen and Mendelsohn (2003).  Other sources of data are outlined in a paper that more thoroughly describes the data (Sohngen and Tennity, 2004).

The data has been compiled as part of a project to integrate forest inventory and land use data into the Global Trade and Analysis Project at Purdue University (GTAP).  The data is also available through the GTAP website and as part of the GTAP land-use data. Additional modeling with the data will be conducted by personnel from GTAP.  It is anticipated that future versions of this data will be developed as new inventories are developed by individual countries, as new price  and cost information becomes available, and as new scientific advances are made in understanding the growth characteristics of species around the world.  To this end, individuals using this data are encouraged to contact Brent Sohngen (Sohngen.1@osu.edu) if you have data that you are willing to make available for inclusion in this dataset.
