Paula Cordero Salas joined the Ph.D. Program in fall of 2006. Her research is on market structure, contracts, policy and development; more specifically on how institutions and policies can balance bargaining power between partners and how this impact distribution of surplus. Her actual work focus on the role of contracts on the insertion of small-scale farmers into domestic or export markets, rural development and poverty alleviation strategies in developing countries. She is also interested in how social networks and culture can influence the determination of public policies and social norms that can affect inequality and development. Cordero-Salas runs the experimental economics laboratory for Dr. Roe. She is also fluent in Spanish, originally from Costa Rica, and has been a scholarship recipient of the Japan-Inter-American Development Bank Scholarship Program. She also has work experiences in an International Organization, Development Projects in Developing Countries, Private Consultant Firms and as a Manager in a private business.
