Frequently Asked Questions

Transferring to Agribusiness and Applied Economics

You may be able to transfer credit into the AAE Major for courses previously taken at Ohio State or other colleges and universities.  If so, please take care of these petitions ASAP.  Note, the AAE Major requires an average GPA of 2.0 in major courses for graduation. Grades earned in other OSU courses petitioned into the AAE Major become part of this major=s GPA calculation.  A grade below a C may be a reason not to petition a course.  Also note, you must take a minimum of 20 hours of AED Econ courses.  The Department is ready to help you, but it is ultimately your responsibility to see that petitions are completed in a timely manner.  We thank you for choosing the major in Agribusiness and Applied Economics and look forward to seeing you around.

Revision to the University’s Admission Condition Policy

Courses that meet an admission condition and are not considered remedial may now count as hours earned toward graduation. If the course(s) also meets a specific OSU requirement they also can fulfill that requirement. For example, a student who took Spanish 101 and 102 as a foreign language admission condition may now count these hours toward the 200 or 190 hours necessary for graduation. Likewise, a student who took Theatre 100 as a visual and performing art admission condition may now count these hours toward the 200 or 190 hours. In addition, Theatre 100 may be used to meet the GEC requirement in arts and humanities. The end result is that you may have fewer hours to take for graduation than you think or you may have already fulfilled an OSU graduation requirement.

What is the math requirement for the Agribusiness and Applied Economics Major?

The math requirement for this major was changed during Winter Quarter 2003 to Math 130 and the newly revised Math 131. Prior to Winter 2003, the major required Math 130 and 132. Beginning Winter 2003, the Math department moved part of the material from Math 132 into the “new” version of Math 131 which satisfies our program.

Thus, if you took Math 130 and 132 prior to Winter 2003, you have met the math requirement for Agribusiness and Applied Economics. If you had not taken Math 132 prior to Winter 2003, you should take the “new” Math 131 in its place.
