Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply?

To apply, you must complete materials for The Ohio State University Graduate School and for the AED Economics department. Instructions for applying can be found here.

Many admissions questions can be answered by the Graduate Admissions FAQ.

How are funding decisions made?

Funding decisions are made on the basis of the applicant's academic record, GRE scores, previous work experience.  In addition, there must be a match between the capabilities of the student and the needs of the department.  Approximately half of M.S. and Ph.D. students are funded by the department and half are self-funded or are funded by an outside sponsor, typically an international organization or a government.  Apply early to maximize your chances of receiving funding. How is the advisor selected?

M.S. students chose their advisor in the second quarter of the first year, while Ph.D. students chose their advisor at the end of the first year.  Students are encouraged to begin informal conversation with professors early in the first year so they can select an advisor whose interests match theirs.
