Receiving the M.A. in Economics 

Ph.D. students in AED Economics can receive the M.A. in Economics by meeting the following requirements:

  1. Complete the Microeconomics Sequence: Econ 804, 805, 808 with a 3.0 or better grade average;
  2. Receive at least a Master's Pass on the Microeconomics Qualifying Examination;
  3. Complete the Macroeconomics Sequence: Econ 806, 807, 809 with a 3.0 or better grad average;
  4. Receive at least a Master's Pass on the Macroeconomics Qualifying Examination;
  5. Transfer to the graduate program in the Economics department for one quarter during or after the quarter in which you pass the micro and macro qualifying examinations;
  6. Submit an application to graduate to the Graduate School for an M.A. in Economics. Have this application approved by the Director of Graduate Studies in the Economics Department;
  7. Transfer back to AED Economics the next quarter.

If you are taking the qualifier in September, you will need to apply for end-of-quarter graduation and will not receive your degree until December. You may also need to remain enrolled in the Economics Department during the Autumn quarter.
