About The Ohio State University
The Ohio State University is the most comprehensive university in the United
States, a world leader in many academic areas, and a major center for graduate
education. Nearly 50,000 students come from every
state in the nation and more than
100 other countries. Ohio State’s 19 colleges and 10 schools offer more than
200 graduate programs—122 Master’s degree programs and 98 Doctoral programs.
There are 170 undergraduate majors and some 10,500 courses to choose from. The
land-grant university tradition provides a unique blend of research, teaching
and outreach education. Agricultural, Environmental, and Development
Economics is one of seven academic units in the
College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences and School of Natural
Resources. Rigorous academic programs offered by the department include courses
and faculty resources in other departments in our College, the Fisher College of
Business, the School of Public Health, and in departments such as Economics,
Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Industrial and Systems Engineering, City and
Regional Planning, Communications, Political Science, and Human Nutrition and
Medical Dietetics.
Research in the department is enhanced by ties to the Ohio
Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC), with its primary campus at
Wooster and 10 branches for Experiment Station research. With formal ties to
Ohio State University Extension, the Department is able to do additional applied
research and offer informal education programs to the citizens of Ohio.
The Ohio State University library system is one of the
country’s largest. The collection includes over 4.8 million volumes and
regularly receives approximately 32,000 serial titles. Membership in several
library networks provides electronic access to other state and national
collections. An agriculture library is part of the OSU system and located in the
same building as this department. And a state-of-the-art business library
recently opened on campus. The university is also a leader in the use of
computer and information technologies. These tools are used by the department
for research and distribution of findings or to deliver educational programming.
