(1) May 2007:  "The 2006 WTO Ruling on GM Crops:  What Impact on the Regulatory Environment?"

Provides a review and assessment of the World Trade Organization's 2006 ruling on the European Union's moratorium on approval of genetically modified crops.  The overall conclusion is that little has changed in terms of the current regulatory environment.

(2) September 2007:  "China and the U.S. Trade Deficit:  Why Does Appreciation of the Renminbi Matter More to China?"

Analyzes the reasons why China is currently running a large trade surplus, and why the Chinese Communist Party leadership wants to rebalance its economic growth path.  The overall conclusion is that while revaluation of China's currency will not do much for the U.S. trade deficit, it will be beneficial to the Chinese economy and will help reduce current global economic imbalances.

(3) February 2008:  "The US Ethanol Sector: An Infant Industry?"

Assesses the arguments for infant-industry protection and whether they can be applied to the US ethanol sector.  The overall conclusion is that corn-based ethanol should no longer receive such protection, especially as there is no available evidence for dynamic external learning economies in this industry.

(4) December 2008:  "The Global Financial Crisis: To Regulate or not to Regulate?"

Provides an assessment of the current global economic situation and the impact of the financial crisis.  The overall conclusion is that there are some strong reasons for re-thinking the ways in which the financial markets are currently regulated.
